I have covered about 800 miles since September!

I used to cycle to work on a very cheap, very heavy, 10 year old mountain bike that I bought as a poor student at university. When I saw the Cyclescheme I saw a chance to upgrade to a better bike and start cycling to work more regularly. Now 6 months after starting the scheme I cycle on average 4 times a week and have covered about 800 miles since September! Not only am I fitter but I feel that I am doing my bit for the environment. I am fully behind the scheme and hope others have similar success stories.

Do you ever wonder what life would be like if we could travel in ways that actually improve our health and the environment? We'd have safer communities, cleaner air and a better quality of life. Sustrans' Connect2 is a real chance to achieve this in 79 communities across the UK. Connect2 plans to create networks of new walking and cycling routes for the local journeys we all make every day. Bridges and new crossings will be built over barriers such as busy roads, rivers and railways, making it possible for people to walk and cycle to work, to the shops, to school and to green spaces. The support of local people is vitally important to make Connect2 a reality. Connect2 is competing against five other projects for a single grant of �50 million from The Big Lottery Fund's Living Landmarks: The People's Millions, with the winner to be decided by public television vote this December. Register your support on the website at www.sustransconnect2.org.uk or Text Connect2 to 80010. Connect2 will then be able to keep you updated about its progress towards the TV vote in December.
